Welcome to This Week in Marketing, brought to you by Intern Beth! This week in marketing, we’ll look at a new app for the crafty person, Coke’s take on nail polish, and a TV anchor that kept to her station’s brand integrity.
Getting Crafty
There is a plethora of ideas on Pinterest about how to turn your favorite phone photos into crafty keepsakes. One of the problems keeping the once-in-a-while-crafter from making a great DIY they find is their ability to actually make it. Fear no more! The new app, Madesquare takes your iPhone photos and makes them into DIY gems.
Madesquare does what it sounds like – it makes those square photos into something to treasure. Users of the app can get their photos on postcards, wooden blocks, canvases, and more. The app has 20 products that from range from $2-$70. Users can also get DIY projects created by the Madesquare founders.
What a great idea to capitalize on a need that almost every iOS user has — how you can turn that beautiful sunset iPhone snapshot into actual art.
As an occasional crafter who tries to make time to be creative, the app doing the work of taking my photo and making it usable is very appealing. Definitely downloading!
Coke and Beauty
Coca Cola and OPI have teamed up to create a new nail polish collection inspired by Coca Cola beverages. With colors like “Coca Cola Red” and “Get Cherried Away,” the new collection is bubbling with personality.
Part of the fun in picking a nail polish color is reading the punny, catchy, and clever names of each color. Coke is sure to pull in some more brand recognition with people wearing the polish and thinking about how a cold bottle of Coke might complete your mani/pedi experience!
The Big Picture
This week in marketing, we’re also giving kudos to a TV anchor that stood up for keeping viewers in the know when it came to severe weather. A South Dakota news station, KSFY, broke into regular TV programming to alert people of a tornado that was touching down.
Nancy Naeve’s statement to disgruntled viewers may be seen as a bad move for the station’s (and the newscaster’s) likability, but it also has viewers from all over the country clapping their hands. The news station made a clear statement to stand up for what they, and essentially their brand, stand for – keeping people safe and informing them about what is happening.
